Why do some people experience muscle soreness after a massage?
Through their mechanical actions, certain types of massage create microscopic tissue damage, similar to bouts of exercise. This tissue damage causes a phenomenon called D.O.M.S (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), usually experienced within 24 to 48 hours following either a workout or a massage as the body’s repair process (inflammation) works its magic. The inflammation, although beneficial, is what causes the soreness.
